IRC
Wisconsin Dom/sub now has an IRC chat room. Don't get discouraged if no one is there when you stop in. Keep trying! There is a scheduled chat on the Thursday prior to each munch at 8:00 p.m. Please mark it on your favorite places, and tell your friends..
The room is hosted by IRC.Bondage.com and named #WIDomsub. Don't be discouraged if no one is in it at the time you jump in. These things take time to catch on..
Don't know how to do IRC?. IRC (Internet Relay Chat) isn't hard to learn The internet is a great tool to meet others with common interests such as D/s. After all, this isn't something most of us admit to all of our real life friends.
FAQ
The IRC FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) for the #WIDomsub channel on IRC.Bondage.com
Where is it?
It's on the Bondage.com server and the name of the room is #WIDomsub
What's the purpose of the room?
It was created so members of the WIDomsub group can chat, in real time,
with those who are in our group and with new people interested in the
Wisconsin Dom/sub & BDSM community. Everyone is welcome.
Members are free to set specific times when they'll be in the room and
let the folks on the Yahoo E- groups list know in
advance, or you can just pop in whenever you feel like it. The room
belongs to us all....enjoy it.
Are any subjects taboo?
Nope
Are there any rules?
Nope, but be nice. If your not nice you will be booted and\par
banned by the channel founder (SlaveTrainer) or an operator.
Can I be kicked out of the room if I get obnoxious?
Yes, and permanently if you're really rotten.
What does the @ symbol in front of the nicknames in the room mean?
It signifies that the person is a room operator (op). These persons are
responsible for policing the room, setting the topic and kicking or banning the obnoxious.
What's the best time to go to the room?
Evenings are best. It's quiet during the day.......gotta work y'know :)
but I've found if you keep the mIRC window minimized while surfing, people pop in and out all
the time. Just scroll the window up after entering and it will ding
when someone comes in. (the latest versions of mIRC blink in the tray instead of ding)
Can files (photos) be sent and received in the room?
If you use a chat client (program) you can DCC pics back and forth if you like.
The intent of the room is to provide a more intimate forum than email can possibly
provide.
I would like to talk privately with someone, can I talk to someone out of the room?
Yes. No one but you and the person can see a private chat but it is proper to ask
before instigating a PM or "Private Message".
Is there a limit to the number of people in the room?
Nope. Unlike AOLs 23 person limit per room we can have as many as want to come in.
Who might be in the room?
You never know >:)
Sounds great, how do I get there?
See below.
You can access through www.bondage.com very easily after registering (free)
and going to the chat link on the main page. Enter #WIDomsub in the space
for the room name and your in like flint.
Many prefer an IRC (internet relay chat) program.
One of the best is called mIRC, you can download it from:
http://www.mirc.co.uk
Download the latest version.
I will explain how to set up mIRC below. Also below are instructions for Mac users.
If you are using the mIRC program to connect ... (PC users) the bondage server
is not directly listed as one in the drop down list to choose from.
To add a server to the dropdown list just open mIRC. The options box should appear
after the "nag" screen. If not click "file" then "options". A box
will appear. The top menu item is "Connect", make sure it is highlighted.
Over by the servers area at the top right is a
little button that says "add" .... click that. Then fill it in as
such ...
Description : Bondage\
IRC Server : irc.bondage.com
Ports : 6667 \{is default and should already be there however if
unable to connect try anything between 6661 and 6669\}
After this info is filled in hit the button at the bottom right that says "add"
The box will close out. And the connect box will still be open. Fill in the Name box (use an alias or your IRC nick) and e-mail\par
(a fake one if you don't want everyone to see it) Then fill in a nick choice and an alternate.
Just above the Name sections is a button that says "connect to irc server" Click that button and you will be on the bondage IRC channel.\par
That's the hard part. The rest is a bit easier. To join our channel you can add the channel to your channel folder. The third icon from the left is a folder with a with a #+, it is the channels folder. Click that icon. A box will open with channel choices in it. Click the add button and type #WIDomsub, then hit "okay" and you will be returned to the channels folder. At the bottom of that box check the box that \par
asks if you want the channels folder to pop up on connection. Double click the channel you want to join (#WIDomsub) and you are there!
If you get the nick you want to use I suggest you register it. In the status dialogue box type the command: /nickserv register Substitute the <> and password for a password you want and <> and e-mail for your REAL e-mail address. You must then sign on at least once every 3 weeks to keep that nick. To automatically enter your password upon connecting go back the the options dialogue box, click on Connect - PERFORM and enter:
/nickserv identify
Again substitute for your real password. Make sure the box on top
that enables "perform on connect" is checked then click ok at the bottom.
For Mac users Ircle http://www.ircle.com/ has the highest ratings. Once you get it up and running, read the help file, then.....select file......then client setup. In client setup enter a nickname and a backup nickname. Don't use a common name....they're all taken.
Certain characters are permitted..... such as....* - _ \{ \} [ ] Numbers are also permitted but no spaces.
Use them to make your nick unique. Enter an email address......a bogus one if you want. (most people do) Enter your name in the name box.....again, bogus if you want. In the server box enter....irc.bondage.com While still in client setup.....select Virc options....then select directories. In the download path box, enter the directory where you would like to store any files (photos) you might receive while in the chat room. That's about it for the basic setup. Close the client setup window. Back in the main server window hit the start button When it says....."connected", you're logged on to the server. In vIRC, across the bottom of the main (server) window is a box where you type commands. To join the chat room type /join #WIDomsub don't forget the space between join and #. That's it.........you're now in the WIDomsub chat room.
Have fun, and e-mail if you have anything to add or a comment on a change to this FAQ
